Sales and Use Tax Accountant

We are a specialty apparel retailer in the Minneapolis, MN area currently searching for a Multi State Sales and Use Tax Accountant to join our home office team in the northern suburbs.  This is an excellent opportunity for the individual who seeks challenge, variety, and the opportunity for professional growth!

 

Job Responsibilities:

  Perform accurate and timely filing of transaction-based tax returns.  Analyze sales and use tax data to validate and track prepayments, overpayments, and credits. Serve as a sales and use tax resource. Communicate with Management to provide tax support, accumulate and integrate information necessary to file accurate, documented tax returns, and to resolve discrepancies. Prepare work papers and reconcile related sales and use accounts. Provide detailed information, documentation and reconciliation to support inquiries from state tax auditors. Determine registration and filing requirements by jurisdiction. Reconcile tax collected to tax returns paid on a monthly basis and resolve any discrepancies.  Document sales tax process and verify controls to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley. Comply with audit requests from federal, state and local tax authorities. File selected monthly sales and use tax returns.

 

Qualifications:

  Degree in accounting or business finance with 3 – 8 years of accounting, tax, or equivalent work experience.  Retail a plus. Strong analytical skills. Written and oral interpersonal and communication skills are necessary Detail oriented problem solver able to perform under time constraints and tax filings deadlines. Experience with tax compliance software packages.
