Known as the "grandfather of specialty coffee," Peet's Coffee & Tea has been a Berkeley institution since opening its doors more than forty years ago. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Peet's Coffee & Tea was a pioneer among other food purveyors in Berkeley's "gourmet ghetto" - a collection of European style shops and restaurants. Today, traditional values are maintained through the hard work and attention to detail that is essential to creating coffees of distinction. The roasting facility is in Alameda, just a few miles from the original location on Vine Street in Berkeley, which still attracts a large, loyal following, including many who are proud that they have been customers since the store opened in 1966.


Overall Function
This position reports to the Specialty Sales Revenue Manager. The sales accountant/accounts receivable specialist is a full-time, non-exempt employee who performs all duties associated with sales accounting and accounts receivable, in an accurate and timely manner. The sales accountant/accounts receivable specialist’s duties include sales and inventory reconciliation for all grocery direct store delivery sales representatives, credit review when a new credit customer establishes an account, maintenance of customer files, billing of shipments, application of payments, entry of manual invoices and month end journal entries.


Responsibilities

Daily Responsibilities
Process grocery sales and reconcile inventory and sales transactions.
Data entry to apply cash receipts.
Review credit applications for completeness, verify accuracy of the information, and contact references for information regarding payment history, coordinate communication with accounting and specialty sales and communicate with customers regarding credit inquiries and status.
Create and distribute daily invoices and credit memos to customers.
Maintain complete customer files, including credit application, credit review correspondence, customer interaction, and credit adjustments.
Data entry of distributor invoices.
Call customers for collections.

General Responsibilities:
Special projects as required by manager.
Arrange work schedule as needed to ensure completion of duties and tasks based upon specified timelines and due dates.
Continuously assess processes for improvement and implement changes as appropriate.
Uphold company policies and procedures.


Qualification Requirements
Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Two years related accounting and accounts receivable experience.
10 key by touch for heavy data entry.
Intermediate computer skills, including various accounting software packages, Excel and Word.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
