POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The DBA/Developer works under the direction of the Director of Software Development and applies development skills to help solve complex business problems in a timely manner.  Additionally, the resource will apply database design, development and administration skills in both development and support roles.  The role requires the ability to work independently or as part of a large project team.  The DBA/Developer will work in both development and support roles within the organization.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

· Database Development / Administration – Responsible for development and support activities on the database servers.  This will include the creation of code units that run as part of the database server as well as the optimization of query and database performance. 

· Database Administration and Support – Share responsibility for the support, maintenance and optimization of a large number of shipboard and shore side databases.  This will include the troubleshooting and resolution of database issues in our shipboard environments.  Work closely with the Application Support Team to solve issues.

· Software Development – Create applications to solve specific business problems.  This will include the creation of applications to perform data cleansing, data conversion and data loading.  Develop application solutions in other areas as required.

· Analysis and Design – Involved in the analysis and design of software and database solutions.

·  Testing and Deployment – Test and document solutions as they are developed.  Test code and database modifications developed by other developers.  Assist in the integration of code units and database scripts as part of larger solutions.

· Documentation – Adhere to all department and team policies for design, development, testing and deployment documentation.  Follow all documented design and coding standards.  Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write effective user manuals.

 REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.5+ years of SQL Server experience.SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005, Query Analyzer, Stored Procedures/FunctionsDTS (Microsoft Integration Services)Database Optimization in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.Database Support in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.Experience in the following languages: Microsoft VB.NET 2003, 2005, T-SQLMicrosoft Reporting Services MS Access Conversion and DevelopmentERP Experience preferableExperience with Visual Source Safe or other Source Control System
