Produce Sales and Merchandising Representative

ABOUT US

 

Melissa's/World Variety Produce is a leading wholesaler/distributor of specialty and organic produce.  Through our retail and food service operations we have sales and service relationships with major grocery and restaurant chains throughout the country.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated Produce Sales and Merchandising Representative with a passion for selling to help increase our market penetration in the Rochester territory.  This is a full time position.  

 

As a Produce Sales and Merchandising Representative, you will be our point person in the field, working directly with our existing accounts to achieve Melissa's sales and profitability goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

§ Analyze business needs of assigned accounts and develop strategy to grow specialty and organic produce sales.

 

§ Assist retail Produce Directors, Merchandisers, and Produce Managers to proactively identify sales opportunities by category, customer segment, seasonality and product.

 

§ Visit all assigned grocery stores on a regular basis and develop strong long term relationships with Produce Managers and personnel.  Ensure maximum shelf space and distribution of all of Melissa's items / sku's.

 

§ Ensure best in class merchandising of Melissa's products. Activities include but are not limited to:account specific marketing programs, planogram resets, store remodels, demos,  POP/POS placement, data collection, display building and replenishing, and new item placement. 

 

 Provide feedback on market intelligence, competitor activity and application opportunities. Maintain a high level of product knowledge of both the Company's and competitive products

 

§ Report on weekly activities, expenses, account changes, retail promotions and all administrative functions within assigned territory. 

 

 

EDUCATION AND SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

§ Understanding of grocery operations, produce sales and food merchandising preferred

§ BA/BS degree is preferred, but not required.

§ Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships

§ Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point)

§ Ability to work from home office, travel to accounts and manage a flexible work schedule with little supervision

§ Some overnight travel may be required depending on business needs

§ Spanish as a second language is desirable, but is not required

§ Strong time management and organizational skills
