Merchandising Manager - Retail
Tai Pan Trading is a home decor retailer with three 100,000 square foot stores. We are opening our fourth store in Rancho Cucamonga, California this September. These stores are a decorator’s paradise, a one-stop-shop for those with discriminating taste in home décor. We offer wholesale prices directly to the public (no membership required). Everything from furniture to clocks, mirrors, dishes, art, and seasonal Halloween, Fall, and Christmas merchandise is featured in creative, inspirational displays. We do not use standardized plan-o-grams. Instead, we rely on our creative merchandising team to present our products in innovative displays and dramatic settings that appeal to our local audience.
Immediate Opening - Merchandising Manager
The Merchandising Manager will be responsible for the creative development and implementation of the visual merchandising in the new store and supervision of the merchandising staff. Tai Pan Trading’s most successful Merchandise Managers have had a background in floral design, event planning and design, and retail merchandising of home décor and seasonal items.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The number one requirement of this position is the ability to take the Tai Pan merchandise and create a “wow effect” that inspires customers and stimulates sales. We strive to make our merchandising bigger and better than anyone else. Our showroom design is constantly changing in order to inspire our customers who can’t wait to see what we are doing for the next season or holiday. We take creativity to a new level, especially with our Holiday displays and installations. “Outside the box” thinking is a must for this position.
The Merchandising Manager must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, expectations, skill, and/or ability required: Apply corporate visual standards to create merchandise displays that are proportionate, balanced and shoppable Maintain merchandise presentation, signage, lighting, and general maintenance Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits Manage day to day tasks and provide training of Merchandising and Sales Team members in support of the Tai Pan mission and Store Director’s priorities Serve as a role model for merchandisers and sales associates in salesmanship and customer service by making the customer experience the priority Manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced, demanding work environment Develop and/or propose fixture design, new product introduction events, and other merchandising activities React to customer response and sell-through by creating and adjusting merchandise displays
Minimum Requirements 5+ years retail management experience Ability to be mobile on the sales floor for extended periods of time Ability to lift and mobilize medium to large items, up to 60 lbs., while utilizing appropriate equipment and safety techniques Available to work a minimum of three Saturdays per month Bachelors Degree or Vocational School Equivalent MS Office skills in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
