Meat/Seafood Field Merchandiser / MKTN2573
Position Description:
The Eastern Division’s Meat/Seafood Merchandising Department, located in Lanham, Maryland, has an opening for a Field Merchandiser to support the Eastern Division Stores.Qualifications: •High school diploma or G.E.D. 4-year college degree preferred.•3-5 years retail store experience with at least 1-2 years in retail management or 1-2 years retail management plus buying experience required.•Full technical knowledge of retail meat and seafood operations required. •High degree of initiative with strong planning skills.•Strong oral and written communication skills. Must be able to understand and communicate techniques involved in training, inventory control, management, and quality of meat and seafood products.•Strong customer service focus; team building and training skills; able to motivate and coordinate merchandising initiatives.•Possess basic computer skills, Word, Excel and Outlook.•Acceptable HR File Review (acceptable PSR required); in current position 6 months. (Internal applicants only.)•Able/willing to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and evenings.•Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Eastern Division-Maryland, Virginia, or Washington DC.Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:•Identify opportunities and train Meat and Seafood Department employees to improve service and operating performance. •Apply expanded knowledge and use of multiple operational reports to route out and solve operational opportunities. •Provide regular communication to the DMS and District Manager(s) on store progress in their specialty. •Provide information and support to stores on new items, holiday merchandising, and quality standards.•Supervise new stores and remodels, implement programs and objectives, and train store personnel.•Oversee compliance with policies and procedures set up by Safeway and appropriate regulatory agencies.•Keep updated on competition and report to Meat Merchandising.•Assist Meat and Seafood Merchandising MDO in developing and implementing programs and policies designed to increase sales and profits of departments and achieve planned results. •Identify potential successors and assist in the training and development of those employees. •Participate in the performance appraisal of the Meat Department Managers in their markets.•Extensive travel within Division required-approximately 90%.*The employee will be responsible for the cost of personal commute mileage whether using their personal vehicle or a company provided vehicle. The company will be responsible for the cost of business mileage and may provide a company vehicle if policy requirements are met and maintained. Salary: Grade 22.
