Manager, Carrier Management - Framingham, MA

Position Summary: Develop and execute the transportation procurement strategy across all Staples business units while leveraging Staples global buying power for transportation agreements in order to improve performance in cost and customer service. Negotiate and manage standardized contracts with clearly defined business requirements to improve service across all business units. Develop transportation partnerships that will support Staples future growth and allow for the total optimization of the Staples transportation network. Primary Responsibilities and Duties:Select best in class third party providers for TL, LTL, and Ocean transportation.Work in parallel with Inbound and International Logistics, Retail Outbound, and XOT to construct customized RFP’s, mini bids, “spot buys�, required to deliver best, most flexible service solution at lowest sustainable costs.Negotiate and formalize service and rate contracts for all suppliers. Manage supplier relationships. This includes development of key performance indicators and partnership objectives aimed at service and cost improvements, leading quarterly business reviews, settlement of financial disputes and resolution of chronic service issues.Network externally via participation in relevant and key industry events (CSCMP, ATA, etc) to ensure that Staples remains “leading edge� with regard to transportation strategies and solutions. Maintain contracts, rate tables, key supplier details.REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferredMinimum of 4-6 years hands on experience in transportation, network design and/or delivery operations Innovative individual who can develop strategies, execute against project plans; and take work to completionAdaptable, flexible, proactive professional style that can prioritize work, navigate successfully in a cross functional/matrix environment and engage support functions as required to complete the workStrong business sense and financial acumenPersuasive negotiation styleSuperior communication skillsMust be organized, detail-oriented and demonstrate the appropriate sense of urgencyExpert literacy in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc)
