Position Description:The Human Resource Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day needs of our associates. It is through ensuring consistent and equitable treatment of our associates that we are able to retain a quality work force. It is expected that the Human Resource Supervisor will maintain high standards of communication and rapport among the department staff, Management, and Distribution Associates. The supervisor is also expected to function independently for extended periods of time and provide strong leadership within their department, among their peers and in assisting Distribution Management in planning for the future. It is important to note that the Distribution Center is rapidly growing. Performance expectations and scope of responsibility for Human Resource Supervisor must also rapidly increase. Therefore, it will require the supervisor to have the ability and desire to quickly develop their own skills and abilities to manage increasingly larger and sophisticated functions and maintain the Human Resource Mission Statement. Functional Responsibilities:Supervise the recruitment, selection and orientation of all exempt and non-exempt associates for the Northeast Distribution Centers to maintain a high quality productive team.Supervise the administration of the step increase process for non-exempt associates to ensure accurate processing of wage rates.Provide advice and counsel to Management regarding associates relations, performance review process, promotional decisions and associate records and files in accordance with company policy and state and federal regulations.Supervise the administration of personnel, payroll, and benefits and workers compensation plans for distribution facilities including claims and grievance processes.Develop and conduct management training programs and supervise the training functions for exempt and non-exempt associates.Conduct area surveys of wages, benefits and personal practice, and make recommendations for changes to reflect market conditions.Prepare unemployment briefs and attend, as needed, as company liaison for the distribution facilities.Maintain a high level of communication and teamwork among staff to ensure accomplishment of Human Resource Mission Statement.Represent Staples and Distribution Centers in a positive, professional manner. Â· Assist HR Manager in advising and supporting managers and supervisors on the fair and consistent handling of situations requiring discipline.· Respond to, guide and advise all levels of associates in distribution center in conflict resolution, policy interpretation and associates relation problem resolution.· Work with Human Resources Manager, Director of Human Resources and Legal to gather and compile information necessary to respond to government agency charges or fines in timely manner.· In coordination with corporate Associate Relations, compile data, prepare affirmative action plan and respond to all outside inquire regarding company compliance.· Conduct interviews, investigations and counseling with regard to exit interviews, follow up on responses to reviews and/or warnings and investigate allegations of policy violation.· Responsible for remaining abreast of all new/revised governmental regulations/programs that affect associates relations at staples.· Responsible for payroll functions for 450+ associates on a weekly basis.· Responsible for benefits orientation, counseling, interpretation, etc. for exempt and nonexempt workforce.· Responsible for developing associates abilities, performance standards and morale through training, reviews, coaching and counseling.· Supports and ensures compliance with all safety programs and direction.· Assist in the presentation of workshops on topics related to associate relations: i.e., progressive discipline, harassment, etc.· Special projects as assigned.· Ability to work a flexible schedule. Required Knowledge/Experience:· Bachelor’s degree Required Skills:Knowledge of state and federal regulations, O.S.H.A. regulations and mandated programs, H.R.I.S., and strong labor background.   Experience:Five years in Human Resources as a Generalist and previous supervisory experience. Education:Degree Leadership Qualities:Leadership id defining quality for Supervisors. An understanding that you are only successful when you care for and address the interests and well being of your associates.
