The Data Steward will work with a close-knit team at Mosaic's headquarters in Irving, TX (near Dallas) and will report to the Director of Software Development. The Data Steward’s role is to ensure high level of data quality across Data Solutions and Reporting functions through the creation and management of sound Metadata management processes. This individual is responsible for metadata management of the data warehouse including Mosaic questionnaire specific metadata known as Reportable Data Points (RDP's); standardizing data naming, establishing consistent data definitions, and monitoring overall data quality. Duties and Responsibilities will include the following: - Ensure proper usage and understanding of RDPs, coordinate mapping activities with other IT groups. - Ensure that new systems and/or databases adhere to existing data management practices, policies, and procedures. - Identify and ensure the resolution of data quality issues, such as uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness in a timely fashion. - Devise, coordinate, and conduct mass data-cleansing initiatives for the purpose of purging and eliminating corrupt or redundant information from databases including RDP cleansing activities. - Identify causes of poor data quality, identify solutions and communicate findings to employees, management, and stakeholders. - Develop and enforce methods and validation mechanisms for ensuring data quality and accuracy through the warehouse. - Responsible for the creation; standardization and maintenance of questionnaire meta-data known as RDPs. - Responsible for data standards: documents data domains, validations rules, data dependencies; source to target mappings; semantic management, naming conventions, data-typing, etc. - Coordinates data standardization activities, data quality remediation and defines data quality requirements of respective data for the enterprise data warehouse and datamart development efforts. - Entrusted with improving, and maintaining a high level of, data quality. - Develop, document, promulgate, and maintain data quality goals and standards. - Monitor compliance of information flows and data stores against data quality standards. - Identify areas for data quality improvement and help to resolve data quality problems through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, or process design strategies. - Measure and report to management on the progress of data quality improvement. - Understands data assets and all internal & external data flows touching the warehouse. - Performs root cause analysis; assesses processes and procedures behind poorly performing data areas (Warehouse, Marts and RDPs). - Reviews, coordinates and resolves data management issues in collaboration with data owners. Specialized/Technical Skills Required: - 3+ years Microsoft SQL 2000 / SQL 2005 server querying or development. - Two or more (2+) years of experience in data management disciplines and applications development/support. - Strong background in change management, quality improvement, data management, and business intelligence and/or reporting; Intermediate understanding of the software development lifecycle. - Solid understanding of databases concepts, theories, principles, processes, practices, and tools, including data quality, data modeling. - Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques. - Demonstrated leadership skills that reflect the ability to serve as liaison for the data developers.Miscellaneous Required Skills: - Management style that exhibits high energy, strategic thinking, collaboration, direct communication and results orientation. - Excellent communication, influencing, and presentation skills. - Poise, maturity and communication skills necessary to represent the data architecture group internally and externally. - Energy, enthusiasm and detail orientation to manage and/or produce high-quality deliverables. - High level of initiative, a proactive team player. - Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and be open to overtime when necessary. - Action oriented change agent mentality with a strong drive for results. Preferred Education and Background Experience: - 2 or 4-year College or Microsoft certified in one field of expertise. - Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as SAS, SQL Server and Business Objects. - Experience with data quality, data profiling, metadata management and reporting. - Proven analytical skills to properly evaluate and interpret cross-functional data standardization requirements. - Familiarity with IT project delivery methodology (SDM) such as Agile and Waterfall. - Experience in a service environment, solid business foundation, particularly in retail merchandising, retail demo, retail customer service. - Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as SAS, SQL Server and Business Objects.
