Job Description As a buyer, you will set forth to build the most compelling assortment of products at competitive price points for our customers. You will be responsible for negotiating to planned margins and business fundamentals, while partnering with Planning to keep space in consideration of your decisions.  The buyer is key to building relationships with our vendors to ensure we’re always in stock, offering the best new product, and never miss an opportunity to maximize profitable sales for Bed Bath and Beyond.  We are dedicated to providing all the resources and tools you need to perform effectively and to be successful. Essential Functions  Identify emerging trends in the home furnishings market Source and creatively develop new products ·  Develop business strategies outlining strengths, weaknesses, new opportunities and risks.  Use your skills to build and maintain strong relationships with vendors Negotiate with the industries largest vendors Negotiate availability, product specs, distribution, delivery deadlines and price. ·  Manage vendor performance to maximize profitability and achieve financial objectives·  Establish department direction and priorities and effectively communicate to merchant team and field organization Interface with Product Development, Marketing Department, Stores and vendors to provide information and problem solve Train, motivate and develop your team to ensure effective performance and growth through consistent on-the-job training. ·  Work closely with Planner to drive sales and dominate marketplace Partner with the planning team on the development of the assortment plans. ·  Perform market analysis, competitive shop and analyze sales trends. Travel to store locations to review product mix, obtain feedback, and share information ·  Be open to feedback from stores to improve product and add to collections. ·  Apply customer service skills to investigate and respond to field issues. ·  Coordinate communication strategies with field organization.  Qualifications Â·  3-5 years Buying experience, preferable with an in-depth knowledge of the  middle to high-end home market·  Sound negotiating and communication skills·  Strong leadership skills ·  Strong analytical and PC skills·  Possess the creative ability to operate independently and be motivated by working with an empowered buying organization·  Bachelor's degree in retail, fashion or marketing preferred·  Some travel required
