Back Office Fuel Accounting Assistant Manager

 

Our Finance Department is in need of an experienced Accountant to be responsible for the following:

 

* Ensure the appropriate, timely and accurate accounting treatment and reporting of a variety of complex company-owned bulk inventory and trading transactions including barge purchases, imports, forward purchases, complex derivative transactions and inventory movements between pipelines, storage facilities, terminals and stores

 

* Validate calculations on the daily “Mark-to- Market� report on a sample basis

 

* Develop and refine the infrastructure needed to support compliance with GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements

 

* Work closely with various departments to develop accounting policies and procedures to properly account for such transactions in compliance with all existing and newly promulgated accounting pronouncements, specifically SFAS 133, SFAS 157, SFAS 161 and related pronouncements

 

* Prepare weekly and period-end journal entries, account reconciliations and reports including the entries to record realized and unrealized gains/losses on such transactions

 

* Collect and maintain documentation supporting fuel related financial disclosures in the annual and quarterly financial statements, including fuel reporting and disclosures within Management’s Discussion and Analysis and the Quarterly Shareholders’ Report. 

 

* Prepare and review monthly balance sheet analysis for key fuel related accounts

 

* Lead Accounting implementation of all upgrades and changes.

 

* Perform special projects (ad hoc analysis and reports, etc.) and other duties

 

* Hire, train, coach and manage professional and clerical accounting staff

 

 

What you’ll need to be successful:

 

* Bachelor’s in Accounting or related business discipline

* CPA

* 7 yrs or more of accounting and financial reporting experience that includes at least 4 yrs of public accounting and 4 yrs of supervisory experience

* Strong accounting research, analytical and reporting skills

* Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team in achieving strategic goals and objectives

* Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and written and verbal presentation skills

* Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment

* Proficiency in MS Office products including Excel

* Ability to learn fuel-related and other systems such as FuelSmart, SolArc and SAP

* Proficiency managing multiple projects with changing priorities

* Fuel Accounting or Commodities Accounting experience preferred
