In an effort to support our rapid company expansion, we are seeking an experienced ASSISTANT BUYER to become the newest member of our Buying Team. Our dynamic team strives to enhance the customers shopping experience, and is driven not to be the biggest, but the BEST.
An assistant buyer is primarily responsible for assortment planning, product development, selection and promotion, vendor negotiation, gross margin and inventory control, develop store merchandising directives. This position is heavily administrative.
Responsibilities:
Review/develop product lines and assortments to achieve budgeted sales and gross margin
Maintain accountability for all non-E3 merchandise under buying supervision
Work with and direct team to improve performance and achieve professional and business goals
Seek and develop new categories, trends, and exclusives.
Recommend items and vendors for advertising to drive additional sales.
Negotiate with vendors purchase terms: Cost, payment terms, co-op money, returns/exchanges, freight/terms of delivery, Opportunity buys, etc.
Procure and supervise the expenditure of all vendor co-op advertising funds.
Maintain support documentation
Control markdown timeliness and total dollars
Work with merchandising teams to create exciting in-store displays and merchandising directives leading to increased sales and profit opportunities including, but not limited to vendor POP, end caps, and overhead displays
Monitor and follow-up on required in-store vendor clinics.
Request signs for promotions and sales
Ensure vendor compliance with shipping and pricing policies.
Visit the warehouse and stores as needed
Manage and execute strategic projects as assigned
Skills/ Requirements
Must have a minimum of 2 - 3 years buying experience in retail industry, preferably buying for a high volume retailer.
Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Must have strong computer skills, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills
Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently
Able to work independently with little supervision
Strong communication skills, both verbal & written
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize
Strong attention to detail
Technical knowledge of related products a plus
Experience at retail level preferred
