Quality Assurance/Culinary R&D Manager
Position Overview: This key leadership position will direct and lead the QA and R&D functions through continuous improvement in quality and food safety principles, practices, measures and priorities. Work directly with Plant Manager to ensure understanding and adherence to all regulatory standards and standard operating procedures. Key Responsibilities: PRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES Tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process. Ensures continuous production of products consistent with established standards. Evaluates samples for sensory attributes and compares to approved reference. Tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process. Retains samples of products manufactured. Compiles and evaluates data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products. Monitors and implements GMP’s to ensure that a consistent quality product is being manufactured. Monitors and implements SSOP’s – plant sanitation. Verifies and validates company HACCP plans. QA LAB · Work directly with Plant Operations to establish and maintain weekly routine for required tasks to be completed.· Oversee workflow to assure that all tasks are completed in an accurate and timely fashion.· Report any and all problems to management on a timely basis.· Maintain QA, HACCP, USDA and all other records of compliance required.· Perform all required tests and interpret, record and log all results.· Report test results to management on a timely basis. Background, Experience and Education: Minimum 10 years quality/food safety related experience in a food processing/manufacturing environment. B.S. or M.S. in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or related field. Work experience desired in sanitation and other food prerequisite programs: Quality Systems, GMP, HACCP, SPC and statistical techniques. Must be HACCP certified. Must be familiar with microbiological test procedures and understand subsequent results. Skills, Abilities and Characteristics: Strong communication skills. Capable of creating and fostering a team-oriented work environment with 40+ associates working two shifts. Outstanding interpersonal skills. The ability to mentor, coach and provide leadership and to forge strong relationships with all groups. Ability to embrace change and innovation. Prior experience communicating with and resolving FDA and USDA issues; appropriately handling consumer and media inquiries. Must be able to complete USDA FDA Food Labeling application and implement production labeling. Must be proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook Email.
