Produce Specialist - Newberry, SC

Merchants Foodservice, a broad-line food service distribution company, has an immediate opening for an individual that is a professional, innovative, and industrious Produce Specialist.  The position is available in Newberry, SC.  We carry a vast line of fresh produce for the food service industry.  Proven procurement experience preferred.  We offer excellent benefit and training programs.

 

This position requires a high school diploma or GED; with 2-3 years proven produce procurement experience.  Candidate should have purchasing skills, produce knowledge, people skills, professional flexibility, communication skills, industry knowledge and math skills.

 

Essential Functions include:

 

 - Procure assigned vendor lines on a daily basis.

 - Responsible for approving all invoices of assigned vendors for payment and see that the correct cost (true and burden) is in the computer for all locations.

 - Assist in obtaining bid prices and place all orders for bid merchandise on vendors that are assigned.

 - Maintain knowledge of food prices, quality and supply through daily contact with brokers and sales people.

 - Participate in planning and execution of merchandising programs (Flyers, DSR Promotions, Sales Contest, etc.)

 - Participate in planning and execution of Merchants Foodservice Food Shows.

 - Expedite orders to insure timely delivery of merchandise.

 - Coordinate disposal of all unsaleable merchandise.

 - Maintain accurate inventory counts on all Produce related items.

 - Anticipate and accommodate customer needs.

 - Maintain professional relationships with all departments.

 - Exhibit a strong sense of ethics.

 - Maintain industry standards of excellence, by attending district sales meetings, product and marketing segment training and sales tool training.

 - Insure competiveness in the market place by completing competitive marketing reports.
