These markets are located in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Pacific Northwest and Northern and Southern California regions of the country. We currently own and operate approximately 50,000 apartment homes in the US and employ approximately 2,000 associates. We are currently searching for an Energy Analyst to work at our Corporate Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Energy Analyst is plays a crucial role in AvalonBay’s overall Energy Management Strategy. This position is specifically responsible for analyzing the energy consumption at our properties, providing updates and analysis to senior management with respect to energy consumption and current energy market outlook, managing the process to procure energy, creating and managing the energy budgeting process and managing the relationships with all energy providers. In addition, this position will underwrite energy expenses for new developments and potential acquisitions.

Qualified candidates will have the following skills/experience:

· Strong analytical skills, particularly financial analysis with variance analysis experience.
· Proven ability to produce results in a detail oriented environment.
· Strong understanding of accrual accounting and utility budgeting.
· Excellent MS Excel skills.
· Outstanding oral and written communication skills
· Ability to create rapport, build strong working relationships and sense of teamwork within all levels of the organization.
· Ability to quickly learn and navigate the organization – able to learn different departments’ functions, identifies and solicits internal resources required to support initiatives.
· BS Degree in Business and 3-5 years experience in an Accounting or Financial Analyst position.
· Knowledge and understanding of the multi-family apartment industry is a plus.
