Systems and Application Engineer

Top three requirements (must have) are:

1.Experience  with Linux (2.6 Kernel) Administration in an enterprise environment.

2.Experience with Windows Server 2003 Administration in an enterprise environment.

3.Experience with a scripting or programming language such as PERL,Java or VB.

 

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical training or work experience. Current MCSE and/or LINUX certification desired.

 

Work Experience:

Minimum 5 years with LAN/WAN technologies in a distributed server environment. Minimum 3 years with J2EE multi-tiered applications, running WebSphere, Weblogic, Tomcat, or JBOSS in a distributed server environment.

 

Responsibilities:

The System and Application Engineer will plan, install, configure, test, implement and trouble-shoot application software solutions, operating systems, databases,  and hardware that make up the distributed server environment.  The Systems and Application Engineer must maintain current knowledge of industry best practices, be familiar with operational and system management methodologies, and stay current with industry standards with multi-tiered applications specifically J2EE developments and architecture.  System and Application Engineers work independently on projects, evaluate the technical risks and strategies involved and provide on-call support for the environment.

 

Essential Functions:

• Excellent English verbal skills.

• Excellent English writing skills.

• Background as a specialist in Windows Server/LINUX configuration, monitoring and tuning, and resolution of stability and performance related issues. 

• Supports application requirements and R&D analysis for the establishment of new Windows/LINUX environments  for application development and production applications.

• Proven knowledge of technologies relevant to the current ATPCO LAN and application environment including Windows 2000/2003 domain, clustering, Exchange email solutions, SAN technologies, backup/recovery strategies, anti-virus and anti-spam systems,  monitoring, MS SQL database, DB2 on Linux, WebSphere, MS Project and Sharepoint Services.

• Hands-on expertise with installation, configuration, implementation and maintenance of operating systems, application software and server hardware.

• Contributes technical advice and consultation on application usage scenarios.

• Develops project plans for functionality, integration and stress-testing of products.

• Uses and recommends available tools to analyze, resolve and evaluate performance and availability issues.

• Interface with vendors and other technical support teams to resolve problems and determine effective and efficient solutions.

• Facilitation and coordination of work across department and divisional lines to produce results.

• Produces well-documented and organized procedures, standards and policies.

• Contributes in the evaluation and acquisitioning of hardware and software solutions including business case justification and vendor interface. 

• Demonstrates effective, independent decision-making skills, and escalates concerns and issues as appropriate.

• Provides 24x7 on-call production support for distributed environment and applications.

• Keeps up-to-date on the system management methodologies and tools used for monitoring, reporting, and system and application backup/recovery (including disaster recovery).

 

Application Knowledge:

• Background as a specialist with J2EE multi-tiered applications running on WebSphere, JBOSS, Tomcat, or Weblogic, running on Windows, Linux or other OS.

• Proven track record with Performance tuning access to DB2, Oracle or MS SQL with multi-tiered applications running in an operational environment.

• Experienced with large scale rollouts of multi-tiered applications from design phase to final release, with documentation and project coordination from the technical end.

• Excellent team skills to work with both developers, quality assurance, and project groups to deliver operationally sound multi-tiered applications.

• Proficient programming skills in Perl, VB and/or Java are a must.
