Staff Engineer
QuadTech,the research and development subsidiary of Quad/Graphics that designsand manufactures automated press and finishing control systems, isseeking a Staff Engineer - Mechanical. The selected candidate will beresponsible for performing professional work in research, development,estimating, conceptual and detailed design, materials, testing andanalysis.The Staff Engineer - Mechanical is a senior level position requiringcreativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipatingand solving unique and complicated engineering problems. This positionwill utilize advanced techniques and the modification and extension oftheories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences anddisciplines to determine program objectives and requirements. The StaffEngineer - Mechanical will independently perform most assignments withguidance in overall objectives, critical issues or unusual problems.Key accountabilities of this position are as follows:•Provides thoroughly researched and documented viable solutions toproblems related to areas of expertise by applying advanced theories,concepts, principles, and processes to all solutions presented thatresult in implemented product improvements•Conceives and plans multidisciplinary investigations of broad areas ofconsiderable novelty and importance, resulting in significantenhancements or new product development•Consults with inside and outside customers, providing researched andfeasible recommendations and guidelines that lead to cost reductionsand improved functionality.•Keeps abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting theorganization for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis ofprograms or new programs warranted by such developments.•Assists in testing of equipment to ensure the meeting of the standardsfor performance, quality, cost and safety. Capable of running thermalsimulation and thermal verification tests in the lab.•Coordinate with Purchasing and Suppliers to specify the appropriate and cost effective components needed for projects.•Directs and assists technicians in building prototypes of newproducts. Creates and controls bills of materials for all new productsby coordinating with the project team and Manufacturing on how theproduct will be built and tested. Supports with transition of productsfrom Engineering to Manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will posses the following skills and experience:•Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.•A minimum of six years related experience in the field of electronic packaging.•A minimum of four years ProE experience with proficiency in ProEsheetmetal, ProE cable & wire harness as well as ProE assembly andIntralink.•The ability to develop and maintain bills of materials on ProE drawings.•The ability to analyze technical data and determine applicability to design problems.•Proficiency with PCs and the Microsoft Office suite.•Good drafting skills and knowledge of Geometric tolerances.•Good oral and written communication skills and an eye for detail are a must.•The ability to read and understand electrical schematics.•Familiarity with UL and CE standards.•Good overall knowledge of component manufacturing in the electronics industry is a plus.
