Sony PlayStation®: Senior Software Server Engineer
Foster City, CaliforniaResponsibilities:U.S. Research & Development (US R&D) is building and expanding services for the PlayStation® family of platforms. The candidate will be a skilled Java software developer with experience in designing and implementing web applications with a database backend. Expanding upon the currently implemented system and incorporating new design requirements, the candidate will also have other responsibilities including the creation and maintenance of design documents, working with the project manager to maintain schedule and software quality. This position requires a solid background in Java based web application and database application development. Must be experienced with common application servers like Tomcat, web frameworks such as Struts, database application tools such as persistence layers and in SQL use. Scripting expertise a plus. BS in Computer Science or equivalent, and minimum 3 years industry experience required. The individual should be a strong communicator and be capable of driving technical issues to resolution.
Qualifications:Strong understanding of patterns and their practical application to software development. Knowledge of what it takes to design and develop both robust and maintainable software. Experience building scalable, high-performance and high-availability systems used by millions of users. Strong Java, Java EE application programming skills. Experience with Java web frameworks (Struts, Struts 2, Spring or WebWorks), persistence frameworks (Hibernate, iBatis or JPA) and an understanding of how they all fit together. Comfortable working on both front end web development (JSP, MVC frameworks, JavaScript, AJAX) as well as backend systems. Knowledgeable about Java network programming in a Unix/Linux environment. Able to debug and resolve a wide variety of problems that occur with production software. Experience with scripting languages, especially Python, a significant plus. Desire to work in a fast paced engineering team practicing an iterative, agile development process.
Requirements:PEOPLE: Strong people skills with the ability to work not only with the team of engineers, but also with various technical groups. Be able to clearly communicate technical issues and ideas to a wide audience. PROCESS: Experience in participating in a formal to light weight development process (requirements, design, implementation, risk and issues tracking, bug triages, testing and release). TECHNICAL: Must have skills in the following areas: Java SE and Java EE, Tomcat or other application server experience, design patterns usage, web UI frameworks, persistence layer or database mapping software, and general database application experience. Python skills are a major advantage. PLANNING/IMPLEMENTATION: Experience in creating and implementing software designs / plans based on lose requirements. INDUSTRY: Enterprise and consumer-facing grade application development experience (e-Commerce, consumer information portals, B2B services, etc.).
