Kaplan Publishing is a unit of Kaplan, Inc., a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company (NYSE: WPO).Kaplan Publishing offers an unpaid fall and spring semester internship for college credit. This opportunity is open to rising juniors and seniors; English or Communications major preferred but not required. Interns must be present at least 16 hours per week.Intern Tasks/Responsibilities:- Assisting Production Editors with various projects, including: - Manuscript preparation and review- Contacting vendors- Updating and revising production schedules- Xeroxing and collating manuscripts- Creating in-house and vendor-related transmittals- Collating and reviewing reprint corrections and filing for future useTasks Skills Developed:- General office skills- Proofreading and editing skills- Ability to create a production schedule, work with outside vendors, and learn about the book production process- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, Photoshop, InDesign CS2, and Quark 7.0, and file transfer protocol (FTP) applicationsQualifications:- Excellent oral and written communication skills- Strong attention to detail - Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines- Data entry skills - Microsoft Office proficiency - Macintosh knowledge - Proofreading experience a plusSalary/Benefits: Salary commensurate with experienceBenefits:Full-time employees enjoy these outstanding benefits: - 401(k) plan. - Comprehensive health, dental and short term disability & long term disability plans - Business casual dress code. - Sick days, personal days, holidays, and vacation days. - A friendly, team oriented environment.Kaplan is an Equal Opportunity Employer.Job Location: New York, NYJob Number: 7353BRCompany URL: http://www.kaplan.com
