Production Editor

SAGE Publications, Inc., a leading academic and professional publisher of books, journals, and electronic media, located in Thousand Oaks, California, with offices in London, India, and Singapore, is currently seeking a Production Editor in our Journals Production department.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the production and accuracy of select journals from article submission to online and print publication, ensuring top-quality production work with the goal of an error-free journal, working together with other departments and teams to produce journals on time and within budget, maintaining the planning and production of activities in accordance with overall production schedule established by department, and performing daily work with moderate supervision from departmental supervisor.

The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

 Â·  Receive manuscripts from editors and ensure all elements are present and accurate

·  Send article proofs to authors and editors

·  Collate corrections from editors, authors, and proofreaders, adhering to proper grammar, puncutation, and style rules

·  Check proof corrections made by designers and/or typesetters and send back until all corrections are made

·  Check accuracy of article files publishing online, ahead of print

·  Prepare articles for issue pagination by collating articles in order of appearance

·  Incorporate advertisinginto journal

·  Perform final issue check, confirming accuracy of pagination, header/footer information, title and author spellings, etc.

·  Communicate with journal editors on production issues

·  Hold responsibility of sending all designated journals to press on time—both online and print

· Participate in meetings by contributing ideas and giving feedback in a concise and productive way, preparing and submitting agendas/presentations when required, and arriving on time

·  Be available to provide support to other production editors on select journals as needed and defined by supervisor/manager

·  Take on or contribute to projects as determined by supervisor/manager

Qualification guidelines include, but not limited to, the following:

 Â·  A bachelor’s degree in English, social sciences, or related field

·  1-3 years of production coordination experience, preferably within the scholarly or academic publishing environment

·  Knowledge of English grammar, usage, and punctuation

·  Working knowledge of APA and Chicago editorial styles preferred

·  Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat

·  Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills

·  A detail-oriented eye for catching typos and grammatical errors

·  Ability to work effectively within deadlines

·  Multi-tasking ability

·  Project management ability

·  Effective internal/external customer communication

·  Ability to address the concerns and complaints of editors and authors with diplomacy and a high degree of professionalism

·  Ability to organize and direct schedule flow

·  Ability to make decisions about suitable editing and proof corrections
