Executive Director, Content & Media Production
Global Production and Manufacturing Services (GPMS), a shared services division of Cengage Learning, supports our business unit customers in their goal of supplying education and training solutions to their customers across the globe by providing world class production and manufacturing services.Responsible for providing overall direction and strategy for the Farmington Hills Content & Media Production (CMP) organization in support of the creation of content for digital and print solutions. Responsible for converting, managing and monitoring the organizational workflows and processes from print-based to web-based publishing. Works collaboratively with the product managers, publishers, business leadership and CPM colleagues to leverage and define best practices and ensure that teams are assigned projects which are delivered on schedule, to internal and customer specifications/requirements, and within budget to achieve financial targets. Champions continuous improvement through the integration of new processes and tools into the content production workflow. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: · Directly supervise an organization consisting of content production directors, content developers, production managers and content project editors to achieve schedule, quality and budget goals of digital, print and media products.· Directs activities to produce content for delivery through effective resource management and full service outsourcing. · Develop, execute and manage a web-based and print publishing strategy that supports the creation and delivery of content in a web-based format (reversing content flow from print-to-database to database-to-print).· Ensure that strategies and processes are nimble enough to enable immediate response to customer and internal stakeholder requests. Manage and monitor for continuous improvement. · Identify roles and responsibilities, workflows, processes and skills and experiences needed to support the strategy and manage ongoing workforce planning activities. · Identify and hire staff to manage web portals.· Working with others, create and manage systems, databases, and tools to create, manage and update content on an as-needed basis (continuously, daily)· Manages the implementation of and adherence to standardized buying practices and processes for all content production, composition, prepress, and media production services · Identify, negotiate and integrate third party databases or content (either authored or streamed) into current offerings· Create seamless partnerships with internal customers (product “visionaries”, marketing teams, etc.)· Identify/hire content experts· Provide leadership and mentorship in a way that positively supports business goals and objectives Knowledge/Skills/Experience: · BA/BS or equivalent work experience.· Experience in the publishing industry, directly managing production functions. Operating knowledge of content and media production practices and tools including content management systems, authoring templates, project tracking systems, editing tools, web-based publishing and automated composition tools. · 7-10 years in progressive leadership roles. · Ability to define and implement product/content criteria and guidelines.· Experienced with developing and/or leading standardization of processes that meet business needs· Proven track record of successfully managing large scale change· Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively, provide feedback in a constructive manner · Ability to manage complex publishing budgets· Ability to manage multiple sites/products out of the same back-end infrastructure· Strong leadership skills· Ability to both take guidance and create solutions depending on the situation. · Is seen by others as an innovator· Ability to partner with, and gain trust of, product visionary team, colleagues, and team
