Position Description:Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s Book Group seeks an experienced copyeditor. This manuscript editor will copyedit manuscripts for a wide variety of children’s book projects, including picture books, novels, and nonfiction works. Responsibilities also include copyediting manuscripts for covers, jackets, and marketing and publicity materials. This individual will check post-production materials such as proof and blues for interiors as well as jackets and covers. This individual will coordinate outsourcing projects to freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and occasionally indexers. Primary Responsibilities: Copyediting and proofreading, or coordinating the freelance copyediting and proofing, of up to 300 total titles a year. Processing invoices and paperwork for freelancersQualifications:BA/BS degree with a minimum of two years book copyediitng experience (preferable trade, ideally children's trade); experience with Excel, Microsoft Word. This individual should have excellent copyediting and proofreading skills and word processing experience; electronic editing experience a plus. This individual should be able to set priorities and juggle assignments efficiently, with a capacity to work effectively under pressure and within due dates. This position requires an organized self-starter who should be able to set priorities and work autonomously. Preferable trade, ideally children's trade book copyediting experience.
