Business Analyst/Technical Consultant - XBRL

Merrill Corporation recognizes the opportunities posed by to the recent SEC mandate eventually requiring all public companies to submit their annual and quarterly financial reports in XBRL and has taken the lead in providing a quality, full-service XBRL offering to its clients. A project group has been organized to develop Merrill’s strategic response to XBRL, and ensure all necessary preparations are made to reap the full benefit of the challenges and opportunities ahead.This position will involve operating integrated software packages for the transformation of client annual and quarterly reports into xbrl for XBRL SEC filings. These reports include the consolidated financial statements & various other accounting schedules & reports. Responsibilities of the position occasionally include serving as a knowledgeable resource for client consultation to answer questions or troubleshoot problems, and participating in the team effort to establish methodologies and develop tools required to support the deployment of XBRL related services.Duties & tasks reflect substantial variety & complexity. Assignments are broad in nature & usually require originality & ingenuity. Successful candidate may serve as a resource to other team members in the resolution of complex problems & issues.Skills/Professional Experience:Overall:- Seeking a junior/mid-level analyst with experience working in a Microsoft-based development environment.- Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with leaders and practitioners from varied positions in the organization, including industry leaders, client service engagement teams and project managers.- Familiarity with XML or similar markup language required - Bachelors degree- Strong analytical skillsDesirable skills, not required:- Experience with XBRL/taxonomies a strong plus.- Knowledge of accounting concepts and principles a plus.- Understanding of the financial reporting process in public companies a strong plus.- Exposure to data analysis and integration using various tools is desirable.
