Assistant Editorial Page Editor
We publish daily and weekly newspapers as well as magazines throughout northern N.J. Our daily newspapers, The Record and Herald News, have been serving Bergen and Passaic Counties for over 100 years. The Record has won the "General Excellence Award" as New Jersey's best large daily newspaper (for circulation more than 60,000) in 11 of the past 16 years, including four of the past five years. Our Community Newspapers, representing 46 weekly and bi-weekly newspaper titles in five counties in North Jersey, include some of the best community newspapers in the state. As the premier provider of news and information, we rely on the principles of being customer-aware and customer-focused.
The Record's Opinion section is looking for an Assistant Editorial Page Editor whose primary job will be to write editorials, facilitate discussion of the editorial board on a daily basis and edit the copy of the writers, columnists and freelancers. This person will also serve as the editor in charge when the Editorial Page Editor is away.
We are looking for a creative thinker, who embraces out-of-the box ideas and ideally has some Quark/design experience. This person will work with the Opinion Page editor in planning Sunday fronts and recruiting new talent for op-ed pages. Candidates must have 5-7 years of daily newspaper experience as a reporter and/or editor.
The candidate should have a firm of grasp of state and local politics. The editorial and opinion pages cull ideas from the entire newspaper. While politics and local government dominate daily discussions, there are no limitations on subject matter. It can be the arts, education, science, sports, etc. If it happens in our readership area, it is fair game for this section.
If you would like to join this award-winning team, then forward your résumé, a cover letter on why you want the job and your five strongest work samples.
North Jersey Media Group embraces diversity in our workforce, our products and the communities we serve. We offer competitive salaries, flexible benefits and an inclusive work environment. EOE.
