Performs all physical tasks to transport or store materials within the framework of established government supply regulations, local policies/procedures, or other governing supply management guidelines. Duties may involve one or more of the following: Manually loading or unloading trucks, or other transporting devices. May also include unpacking, shelving, or placing items in proper storage locations; or transporting goods by hand truck, cart. Operating a manually controlled gasoline, electric powered forklift to transport goods and materials around warehouse, or other establishment. Work involves most of the following: Verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifest, storage receipts, or other records; noting and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages; routing materials to prescribe storage locations; storing, stacking, or palletizing materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods; rearranging and taking inventory of stored materials; examining stored materials and reporting deterioration and damage; removing material from storage and preparing it for shipment. Verifying orders are accurately filled by comparing items and quantities of goods gathered for issue or shipment against documents produced. Work may also include performing physical tasks and some clerical tasks in connection with shipping goods and receiving incoming shipments within the framework of government and local directives. Receiving duties typically involve the following: uploading incoming trucks/sea vans; verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records; checking form damaged goods; processing inputs into the government information systems and properly routing to departments using the procedures in USAF and DOD governing instructions; segregate items requiring special handling. Shipping duties typically involved the following: arranging for the processing, documenting, and billing for the transportation of freight by all modes of government or government arranged commercial transportation; insuring that shipments are properly packaged, identified with shipping information, and are loaded, blocked, braced into transporting vehicles to include outgoing trucks/sea vans; preparing and keeping records of goods shipped, e.g., manifests, bills of lading; verifying the correctness of outgoing shipments by comparing items and quantities loaded/unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records; checking for damaged goods, segregate items requiring special handling. Work may also include converting military nomenclatures to commercial freight classification; verifying appropriate accounting information for outgoing shipments; determining cargo priority and scheduling movement accordingly; determining and scheduling proper carrier equipment for the loading of outgoing freight; and operating automated data processing equipment and appropriate software programs to schedule/book outgoing shipments and document the receipt of incoming shipments.Work may also include preparing items for shipment; typically includes placing them in shipping containers, the specific operations performed being dependent upon the type, size, and number of units to be packed, the type of container employed, and method of shipment. Duties may involve operating equipment/machines used in the banding, stapling, taping and sealing of cargo being prepared for shipment and operating woodworking equipment in the construction of specialized shipping containers. Work may include any other duties assigned by the supervisor.Individual qualifications require(s) a working knowledge of the government supply and transportation system, programs, policies, nomenclatures, work methods, manuals and other established guidelines. Should have a working knowledge of government warehousing, storing, receiving, issue, bench stock, delivery, inbound and outbound freight operations and government special packing instructions (SPI).Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
