VP, Communications - OWN

Position Summary:Currently staffing a full public relations team for OWN, a new multi-platform venture designed to empower, entertain and uplift. OWN staff and operations will be based in Los Angeles. We are seeking a strategic and seasoned publicity and corporate communications executive to manage fast-paced start up PR department. Responsibilities include managing staff, creating and executing PR campaigns, preparing executives, talent and producers for interviews. The position reports to the SVP of Corporate Communications.Responsibilities:1.Press outreach, manage department, create pr/communication strategies, write and edit written materials.2.Manage senior executive interviews, lead special projects, create presentations, and write speeches.3.Makes decisions in high-pressured situations, often centering on key or controversial issues facing the company, while dealing with local and national media. 4.Support development and implementation of pr plans for a variety of launches, enhancements and business initiatives. 5.Stay abreast and anticipates upcoming areas of potential opportunities in the television landscape.6.Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key members of the media in various beats. 7.Creates compelling targeted messaging through releases, fact sheets, corporate statements and executive quotes Requirements:* Minimum 10 years publicity related experience in entertainment* Superior interpersonal and written communications skills* Candidate must have strong relationships with the media * Previous experience publicizing television programming* Knowledge of online, television programming and cable television industry* Must have ability to multi-task and prioritize under often fast-developing deadlines, including managing multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously * Team player who can execute independently in the fast-paced media environment * Stable work history* A Bachelor's Degree required * Must have the legal right to work in the United States***As a Discovery employee, if you accept a position with OWN you will no longer be eligible for any Discovery benefits.
