Telecommunications Network Engineer

Telecommunications Network Engineer Description: Responsible for planning and implementation of telecom network elements including optical network, TDM switching network, DLC access network, VoIP softswitch platform, IP and ATM network as well as a CATV network. Requirements: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Provide technical support to technicians, sales personnel and customers on voice and IP network issues. Perform network design functions for voice and data applications. Plan network additions and upgrades, specify network equipment, procure pricing and technical specifications, and create work orders. Perform engineering cost analysis on competing technologies. Create requests for proposal and detailed technical specifications for product comparisons. Conduct objective product and vendor comparisons. Create and maintain equipment and assignment databases. Conduct regular capacity reviews and projections. Create annual capital budget projects. This person must be available to be on-call and ready to support issues at any given moment. Experience with Lucent 5E, Fujitsu, Tellabs and Alcatel-Lucent DLCs, Metaswitch, Cisco routers, and any CATV head end is preferred but not all are required. DC power experience a plus. Cost analysis, budgeting and traffic planning skills required as well as a solid understanding of TDM and IP networking. Sales presentations to potential and existing customers related to Network Design and planning. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and customers in the course of work activities. Knowledge of telecom network, design, development, and capacity planning. Skills in analytical problem solving. Knowledge of IP networking concepts including bridges, routers, and local and wide area networking protocols, DNS. Good problem solving and organizational skills necessary as well as good communications skills and an initiative to learn new products and services. Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules. Engineering degree with at least 4 years of proven telecom engineering experience, alternatively a two-year technical degree with 6 or more years of experience will be considered.Cisco certifications not required but a plus.
