Our client, a successful and highly respected North Carolina based corporation (NOT a Bank), seeks a Tele/DataCom Engineer to join their IT department's team of accomplished professionals. Job Summary

Primary responsibilities include requirements specifications, design, installation, maintenance and support of company’s data and telecommunication network infrastructure.  Perform site visits to provide field level engineering support and troubleshooting, and to ensure that technical specifications are being met.  Provide secondary technical support to end users and primary I.T. support staff in resolution of data and telecommunication issues. 

 

Essential Functions

· Install, maintain, and support data and telecommunication hardware and software, routers, switches, and related equipment. 

· Review vendor installations to ensure quality and accuracy of work per company standards.

· Evaluate, prioritize, and respond in published timeframes to incoming user communications requests.

· Perform troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network connectivity problems.

· Perform project planning and management tasks, preparing and maintaining project schedules, technical reports, and configuration and cabling information to ensure complete documentation of procedures and technical projects.

· Evaluate LAN/WAN connectivity with related hardware and software requirements and capabilities, recommending hardware and software configurations based on factors such as number of departments serviced, reporting formats required, volume of transactions, time and cost constraints, security and access restrictions.

· Monitor functioning of equipment to ensure systems operate in conformance with specifications, coordinating repair and maintenance with third party vendors as required.

· Perform Wireless network surveys for AP placement, troubleshooting and security.

· Manage the Telecommunications billing process, check for completeness and correctness. Work with vendor to resolve all issues. Ensure payments are made on time.

· Ensure equipment lists are kept up to date.

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or related area from a four-year college or university with three years direct responsibility for supporting the data communications and network infrastructure, or a minimum of six years data communications and networking experience supporting the complete enterprise data and voice networks in a multi state environment.

 

Must have the following minimums or equivalent: Cisco (CCNP, AWLANSE), Nortel BCM 50 Installation & Maintenance, Nortel Option 11 (NCSS), Avaya Partners. Firewalls and configuring secure communications to/from the mainframe, UNIX, and Intel environments is desired. 

 

Experience:

· Five years hands-on in a layer 3 switched environment.

· MPLS

· Network Security

· Three years hands-on Telecommunication (PBX, Call Accounting, Call Routing, ACD, Centrex)
