Technical Lead PHP / Perl Developer

Aavalar has been contracted by a fast growing e-Commerce company to search for and deliver a Technical Lead - PHP and Perl developer who will be charged with hands on technical architectural direction and development for a very specialized development effort/business.  The successful candidate must have really outstanding people skills to keep internal employees on task and on schedule, but also be able to role up their sleeves and actually develop software.  It would be perfect if the candidate had previous experience interfacing with customers and investors.  Although we are considering candidates from all industries, the person who successfully fills this role will probably come from an internet business and will understand the nuances of creating value in that world.  Equity in one or more businesses will be awarded immediately as part of the compensation package.

 

Position Title: Technical Lead PHP / Perl Developer

 

Work Location: Near West Chester, PA

 

Work environment: Unique office situated in a wooded country setting.

Who does this position report to?  Currently reports to the CEO, but will soon report to a CTO.

 

Why is this position open? Business is ramping up and there is a need for a player/coach hands on tech lead.

Projects involved with:

> Development of social networking tools and applications.

 

Responsibilities:

> First and formost... Must be a strong hands on developer...

> Provide hands on technical leadership as well as project management for a fast moving web development projects.

> Assist in attracting and retaining top talent.

> Contribute to the selection of technologies that will be used, moving

forward, to develop web based businesses.

> Understand critical path of various projects and keep the development

staff on course and on schedule.

> Encourage a unit testing mentality and enforce the development of code that can be tested in a modular fashion as requirements change.

> Be the technical liaison between management, investors and staff.

> Research, evaluate, embrace and use new technologies as they become

available.

 

Role with the group (manager, programmer, etc.):

> Player - Coach... Definitely a hands on position.

 

Required Skills:

> 2+ years of PHP Development experience

> 3 years of Javascript

> mySQL database experience is a must

> Experience with software Version Control Systems

> Small scale project management

 

Desired Skills:

> Perl

> Rally (or some other) project management software.

> Drupal

> Facebook Java API / Javabook / etc.

> Python, or Ruby
