The Tufts University Photography Department is currently seeking a talented innovative Staff Photographer who is organized, deadline oriented, and able to juggle multiple tasks as well as exercise sound judgment to produce high quality images.

The Photography Department is a university-wide resource that provides three primary services: Populating with stock photography and maintaining an online library of images that reflect the Tufts brand and that are available to the Tufts community as well as approved external vendors. Operating a photo assignment service that processes requests for staff or freelance photographers to shoot events, print or web project images, faculty/staff profiles, or images needed by departments, divisions or any official Tufts organizations for a range of purposes. Setting the photographic vision and style in support of the Tufts visual identity as directed by university design and by working with colleagues from all university communications departments.

The department has two full-time staff who both shoot and handle the operational needs of the library and the photo assignment service, as well as one half-time administrative support position who is the primary scheduler for the assignment service. The department is expected to provide the university photography at below market rates and to manage a chargeback system that offsets some of its operational budget needs.

The Staff Photographer is an excellent shooter with a style suited to the varied needs of Tufts´ environment that includes three campuses, both urban and rural, and its seven graduate and undergraduate schools including professional health sciences, arts and sciences and engineering. The individual must have the flexibility and creativity to capture the richness of these venues in innovative ways that portray Tufts entrepreneurial spirit and visual identity/brand. She/he will be expected to spend about 50% of his/her time shooting.

The Staff Photographer is also expected to fulfill certain photo editing and photo technician duties, including editing assignments, digital color correction and creating online photo galleries and multimedia slide shows in support of the department’s assignment service and image library. In addition, he/she must be a true team player who has experience in a collaborative environment. This individual must be accustomed to taking art direction as well as functioning well independently to find the most creative and relevant approaches to a varied range of assignments. Basic Requirements: Bachelor of Arts degree Three (3) years of experience Able to use Photoshop and other photo software as well as Excel, and be willing to learn new database software for the photo library Be familiar with Photo Mechanic, iView Media Pro, Flash, basic HTML, Adobe Fireworks and Illustrator, Final Cut Pro Familiarity with audio editing software such as Audacity and ProTools Domestic travel for some photo assignments is expected

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a professional photography setting, such as a design firm, ad agency or similar education communications department setting. Experience working in a deadline driven environment.

Special Work Schedule Requirements: Working overtime, evenings and weekends will occur as events and assignments dictate.

Tufts University is an AA/EOE employer and actively seeks candidates from diverse backgrounds.
