Skilled Craft Supervisor

This Craft Supervisor will serve as the management coordinator and Steward for all convention facilities in the Melton Valley (7900 area) area. Craft Supervisors coordinate, plan, and schedule the work of others (primarily craft resources) in maintining and operating ORNL facilities. They team with craft workers and other support personnel in task preparation and planning to ensure that work is conducted in a safe and efficient manner. Craft Supervisors work closely with building occupants to ensure that the facility maintenance and service needs of research and support organizations are met promptly and cost effectively.

Craft Supervisors are expected to establish and maintain a business culture that focuses on meeting the needs of facility occupants. They serve as the primary customer interface for facility work and ensure that customers are fuly informed about maintenance and repair tasks, schedules, status, delays, etc. Craft Supervisors ensure that work tasks are properly analyzed and graded according to ORNL work control procedures. Craft Supervisors contribute to preparation of the Complex Annual Work Plan; develop cost estimates and schedules for maintenance, repair, and other facility services; and manage tasks within budgets and schedules. They provide support, as appropriate, to craft workers as they perform self-directed work. Craft Supervisors work closely with Division support personnel to support administrative functions (training needs, timekeeping, absence control, performance evaluation, and feedback, etc.)

Experience and Education Required:

Craft Supervisors must have an appropriate combination of education and experience to prepare them to coordinate, plan, and schedule, the work of others in maintenance and operation of ORNL facilities. This position requires a working knowledge of facility maintenance requirements. Applicants must have good interpersonal skills, computer skills, organizational skills, and the ability to develop positive customer relations. Supervisory or project management experience, as well as familiarity with labor relations principles and the ATLC contract, is highly desirable. This position will plan and direct all activities required to manage the infrastructure of conventional office and storage facilities.

Remarks:

The Melton Valley Conventional Facilities Complex includes the office, maintenance, and storage facilities necessary to execute the research and operations functions in the Melton Valley area. This includes user office and computing spaces, office facilities for several Divisions, and maintenance shop areas.
