To sustain and enhance our leadership position in the pharmaceutical industry, we continue to recruit, develop and motivate individuals whose skills, values, and work ethic will grow and improve our business.Job Summary:The Senior Patent Attorney will be an integral member of Wyeth's Patent Law Department, while focusing primarily on matters for Wyeth’s Consumer Healthcare Division, with possible secondary support to Wyeth’s Fort Dodge Animal Health Division. As a Sr. Patent Attorney you will counsel Wyeth’s Consumer Healthcare/Fort Dodge Animal Health Divisions and their research management in intellectual property law as part of the decision-making process. Your responsibility will be to enhance Wyeth’s Consumer Healthcare and Animal Health businesses by providing legal counsel regarding intellectual property issues and instruments (e.g., agreements) and to protect Wyeth’s assets by acting as Wyeth’s liaison with outside law firms for protecting Wyeth in civil litigation, European or other international oppositions, and patent interferences. Job Responsibilities: Identifying research that may be subject to filing of patent applications Work with inventors to develop strategies for preparing and filing patent applications Work with inside or outside counsel to file and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications Manage licensed-in technology from universities and companies—coordinate with licensor’s attorneys to secure patents that will aid Wyeth’s business Work on developing strategy for clients on how they can develop an area, strengthen patents to support products and try to work around roadblocks in patents Client counseling through participation in various levels of R&D meetings Answer general questions regarding intellectual property Conduct educational client seminars and courses on intellectual property Analyze patents and prepare infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions Work with outside counsel on opinions and aid them in communicating with the right contacts and in gathering correct information Review scientific papers or posters prior to submission for publication Monitor intellectual property activities of third parties in various subject matter areasBasic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Science or Engineering (i.e. chemistry/ biology/biochemistry/molecular biology), advanced degree a plus. J.D. and admitted to a State bar 6-8 years experience with a law firm and/or corporation Admitted to U.S. Patent & Trademark Office Experience with preparation and prosecution of patents (U.S. and foreign); preparation of infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions; client counseling Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and at different levels in the company (i.e. staff scientists, group directors, Vice Presidents, etc.) Ability to understand business issues Creative problem-solving skills; ability to address business and legal issues Ability to write clearly and succinctly Confidence-ability to present legal position and withstand client pressure for a contrary position that could be adverse to the company Willingness to travel-clients are at different sites, litigation, Patent Office interviews, meetings with outside attorneys Ability to juggle priorities and deadlines Experience with another company and agreement experience a plus.Relocation is available for this position.Wyeth offers competitive compensation and benefits programs, including child-care subsidies, flex-time, business casual attire, educational assistance and professional development programs.For more information and to apply online, please visit us at: www.wyeth.com/careers Wyeth is an Equal Opportunity Employer, M/F/D/V.
