Over the past fifteen years we have actively supported efforts to improve child welfare policy and practice through system reform.  Our work has included the evaluation of several major child welfare initiatives.  Our support has also focused on helping states, local jurisdictions, and national foundations gather and use data to identify areas in need of improvement and to monitor the impact of policies and practices designed to address those areas.

The Senior Associate will manage, support, and promote projects related to our child welfare work, including foster care reform.  The successful candidate will be responsible for project design, implementation, and management, as well as project deliverables (written and oral), overseeing a team of researchers.  The Senior Associate must have the ability to conceptualize and manage complex projects, take the lead in promoting new work, and represent Metis with clients and in professional network venues.

This position will be based in our New York City office. Periodic travel to jurisdictions throughout the United States is required. Background checks per the requirements of our Education and Human Services clients are required.

·        Prior experience as principal investigator or project director in child welfare evaluation projects.

·        Experience in the area of self-evaluation or participatory evaluation; demonstrated proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods; experience with gathering, aggregating, and analyzing data from multiple sources; and familiarity with software packages used for data analysis and presentation of findings.

·        Ability to work collaboratively and to effectively and efficiently manage multiple projects.

·        Ability to supervise, direct, and mentor staff assigned to projects in areas such as evaluation/research design, instrument development, data analysis, report writing, and client expectations/relationships.

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present technical results to lay audiences.

·        Demonstrated achievement in providing technical assistance to clients whose ability to collect, analyze, and use data varies widely.

·        Ability to promote and secure new work.

Compensation

Starting salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and earnings history.  A competitive benefits package is also provided.
