Research Scientist (Medicinal Chemistry)

SUMMARY: Market, manage and execute projects in the business areas of synthesis and medicinal chemistry; develop new technology platforms and expand upon existing synthesis and medicinal chemistry platforms of SwRI; conduct independent research in the area of synthesis and medicinal chemistry as a project manager; directly manage research and technical level associates in the areas of synthesis, medicinal or process chemistry; write proposals to gain contract funding in the form of contract research and government grants.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires a PhD degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or equivalent or an MS in Synthetic Organic chemistry with 2-4 years previous pharmaceutical industry related experience synthesis experience, a Ph.D. and/or post-doctoral experience is preferred. Must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Experience in the design and execution of multi-step synthesis of complex organic compounds is required; demonstrated hands on skills and strong working knowledge of modern synthetic reactions and laboratory techniques (milligram to 100 gram scale) are required; previous industrial medicinal chemistry or process chemistry experience is required; previous experience with chemical library design, synthesis and purification is also advantageous; requires a strong background and proven track record in the multi-step, total synthesis of complex natural products, or small molecule organic compounds; experience in the design and execution of multi-step synthesis of complex organic compounds and strong working knowledge of modern synthetic reactions and laboratory techniques (1 gm to multi-kilogram scale) are required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills for writing reports, presentations, and personal interaction with staff members and customers.; must be comfortable in a research laboratory setting, including organic synthesis, purification techniques, analytical techniques, notebook maintenance and record keeping, and use of personal protective equipment; must be creative, motivated, and willing to learn. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
