Job Description:Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc. (formerly Noveon), a subsidiary of The Lubrizol Corporation, has an immediate need for a Research Chemist - Hair / Skin Applications in its Noveon Consumer Specialties business. This position is located at our Brecksville, Ohio facility (a southern suburb of Cleveland). DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:This position reports to the Personal Care and Pharmaceutical Division and focuses primarily on supporting applications development initiatives. Must demonstrate formulation, new product application development and assessment of polymer technology used in a variety of personal care applications. Ensure physical stability, efficacy, consumer appeal, processing capabilities and cost effectiveness. Deliver projects/programs in accordance with agreed upon deadlines. Provide technical support to sales and marketing functions through application development efforts and customer-directed research projects. Able to anticipate, determine and understand customer needs, expectations and market trends in order to apply Noveon product technologies to satisfy the requirements. Manage concurrent multiple development projects. Participate in multi-functional project teams. Maintain awareness of competitive products and applications, technical developments in relative fields of science and market trends as they relate to personal care products. Prepare and deliver technical presentations to internal as well as external customers. Provide written monthly reports and regularly communicate project status and timelines to management team. Participate in the training of sales staff and distributors for the personal care products. Provide telephone support to customers, both internal and external.SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: BS in chemistry, chemical engineering or other science related field. Minimum of five (5) years industrial formulating experience. Strong experience/knowledge working in hair and skin applications (gels, emulsions, surfactant systems) Must have strong knowledge of personal care formulations through product development experience on the bench and contact with product manufacturers or key raw material suppliers. Excellent decision making and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret and translate experimental results. Self-starter and highly motivated towards goals and achievements. Ability to generate new and creative approaches to new product development and problem solving; flexible thinking. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects, set objectives and identify resources/processes necessary to accomplish goals. Must have strong interpersonal, written/verbal communication and presentation skills. Anticipate, identify and effectively assess issues/situations, gather data and background information, analyze information and determine steps for solution. Exhibit excellent organization and planning skills; manage time effectively. CONSIDERED A PLUS: Previous supervisory experience.SALARY RANGE: $50,000 TO $100,000BONUS ELIGIBLE
