Job SummaryAs a Principal Scientist you will be a lead technical expert in process engineering and will spearhead new technology development and implementation in Bioprocess Development. You will be responsible for leading process development research focused on designing and optimizing fermentation processes for natural products, vaccines polysaccharides and recombinant proteins. The scope of the research includes developing improved microbial strains, media and fermentation conditions at laboratory scale and then advancing the process to the pilot scaleJob ResponsibilitiesIndependently plans and executes work on a major project or several unrelated projects. The projects are technically complex or of a major commercial importance.Manages the design and execution of complex experiments utilizing previously encountered procedures as well as procedures based on new principals and technologiesDirects several complex experiments at the same time and analyzes data and provides the guidance to the technical staff for future work.Reads, understands and uses the scientific literature to design novel experiments based on seemingly unrelated pieces of information. Learns and implements new procedures involving a range of technologies.Writes monthly summary updates, drafts technical reports and makes presentations to project teams.Interacts with other scientists/engineers and technical managers within and outside the group.Supervises and mentors junior staff.Basic QualificationsMS/Ph.D. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or Applied Microbiology.Minimum of 8 – 10 years of relevant experience (see below).Candidate should have extensive experience in bioengineering and bioreactor process operations and as well as a strong background in microbiology/biochemistry, strain improvement and medium optimization. You should also have familiarity with downstream recovery operations. The candidate must demonstrate a high level of initiative and be capable of working independently in a multidisciplinary team environment. Relocation is not available for this position.
