Apply chemical engineering principles such as reaction engineering, mechanistic modeling simulation, crystallization engineergin, DoE, in-situ analysis and PAT, bench and pilot experimentation, and process design to solve API scale-up issues and improve process understanding to support project teams responsible for preparing up to 5 kg of API to support pre-clinical and IND-enabling toxicology studies. Work effectively and independently across SRD and NPPD to ensure the successful development and transfer of a robust, scaleable process for API production. Job ResponsibilitiesSupport synthesis project teams through the application of chemical engineering principles to resolve scale-up issues, improve process understanding, and facilitate API delivery to support pre-clinical and clinical needs. Provide primary support for mechanistic modeling, reaction engineering, crystallization engineering, and scale-up simulation using DynoChem to support process scale-up, process fit, process understanding, and tech transfer.Support the development and scale-up of continuous flow processes for preparing 0.5 to 5 kg of API and intermediatesIdentify and champion new technologies and unit operations for improving process development and scale-upFacilitate status updates on projects (monthly reports, Project Review Meetings etc).Satisfactorily completes all cGMP/cGLP and safety training in conformance with Departmental requirements. Ensure the compliance with all site and departmental safety policies The incumbent will work with the project teams, members of InPACT and CET, and representatives of the scale-up facilities under the supervision of the Associate Director for InPACT/CET. The incumbent will work with the teams to identify and prioritize activities, identify additional resources, and in general will work independently to achieve department goals. The incumbent will also have significant non-project responsibilities focused on improving efficiency, productivity, and communication in the departmentBasic Qualifications Ph.D./MS in Chemical Engineering and minimum 10 years relevant industrial experienceExcellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skillsAbility to effectively respond to changing priorities on a very short noticeAdept in multi-taskingStrong record of accomplishment including publications, presentation, committees membership, external reports.Experience in process research, development, and technical transfer to internal customers and outside manufacturers Experience with mechanistic modeling, in-situ analysis, DoE.
