Position: Packaging EngineerThis individual will execute engineering projects involving the automation of primary and secondary packaging operations for Medical Device. Provide skills to design, code & implement programs related to automation systems.Primary Accountabilities:1. Execute packaging projects as required to improve and automate Medical Device delivery device packaging.2. Design and/or consult in the design of primary and secondary packaging coupled with packaging equipment and control systems which accommodate multiple BOM's. Conduct audits, vendor evaluations, factory acceptance testing, tooling reviews and related activities as required to support packaging operations. 3. Provide timely engineering analysis for resolving production problems related to automation equipment and/or controls for primary and secondary packaging processes.4. Identify and implement cost reductions/productivity improvements through use of new technology, package design or machinery.5. Perform Project Management and project implementation functions including the preparation of scope documents, risk analysis, cost justifications, validation protocols, capability studies, engineering tests, project schedules and the management of project resources and personnel.6. Adhere to GMP documentation for all work performed.Reports to: Associate Director of Consumables Operations RequirementsRole Requires: BSME or B.S. Degree in Packaging Engineering, with advanced technical education/degrees preferred.Experience: 7 Plus Years of progressive Package engineering experience. Experience must include the following: significant “hands on” experience with automation equipment for primary/secondary packaging, project management, history of implementing innovative and creative primary and secondary packaging systemsFamiliarity with basic Microsoft office package software, PLCs(Allen-Bradley), General knowledge of sterilization, various primary packaging equipment, various secondary packaging equipment, various robotic control systems (including VB.NET), HMIs, motion control networks, barcode and vision inspection systems.Specific Position Knowledge's, Skills/Abilities Required:In depth knowledge of primary and secondary components, component design, packaging materials, and necessary processing for primary and secondary packaging. Proficiency is required in coordinating components with automated machinery. Demonstrated knowledge of combining PLCs, VB.NET, part tracking, data collection, inspection systems and packaging equipment.Project management and organizational skills are required. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/activities concurrently.Understanding of primary packaging impact to sterilization for medical devices. Proficient use of positive interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to identify and plan future automation of processes several years out.Essential Job Duties and Functions:1) Directly manage 2 or more medium to large sized concurrent automation projects.
