Marketing Specialist

Tufts Summer Session is looking for a results-driven individual with polished communication skills to formulate and put into action convincing strategies for marketing Tufts Summer Session programs.

Tufts Summer Session markets summer courses offered by departments in the Schools of Arts & Sciences and Engineering and oversees student enrollment and faculty compensation issues. Targeting enrollment by Tufts and visiting students, Tufts and visiting graduate students, pre-college (high school) enrollments, and professional, Summer Session’s goal is to provide summer opportunity for students, faculty, and Tufts University. On average, 300 courses are offered to 2,500 students annually, with revenues in excessive of $3.7 million.

The Marketing Specialist is a member of the summer enrollment team, specializing in promotion and outreach. Working with the manager, he or she puts a marketing plan into action. The Marketing Specialist conducts market research in target enrollment audiences to detect emerging enrollment trends, customer satisfaction, and student media consumer habits. Using market intelligence, the Marketing Specialist positions Tufts Summer Session and Tufts Summer Study by making timely media purchases, editing web pages, and coordinating direct mail. The Marketing Specialist writes advertising copy and ensures cost controls and program quality by seeking feedback from university personnel and students.

The Marketing Specialist assists with the recruitment of qualified pre-college students and administers the admission and billing processes for this program. As a member of the general summer enrollment team, he or she provides direct customer service to students and their families, and liaisons with university student services staff to resolve enrollment and payment issues. For students requesting a study visa, the Marketing Specialist coordinates the intake of required information and produces appropriate documentation. Basic Requirements: Bachelor’s degree Two years of related experience Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) plus experience with databases Attentive to detail and follow through Solid creative, persuasive, and analytical skills Ability to work independently, take decisive action in pressured situations, handle multiple concurrent tasks, and be a team player Ability to negotiate with advertising vendors to achieve best price Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in marketing educational programs, student recruitment and services, and media/advertising. An awareness of higher education and higher education issues and trends (in the context of summer, "continuing education," or “discretionary education” enrollment is a plus). Understanding of issues related to research ethics and Internal Review Board (IRB) protocols. Experience in statistical analysis and presentation. Previous work in web page construction and web content management.

Special Work Schedule Requirements: Due to workload, no vacation time is available in the summer (May - August). Limited vacation time in spring (March and April). Occasional responsibility to keep the office open until 6:00 p.m. at the start of each session.
