Maintenance Mechanic
JOB SUMMARY
This job description for the maintenance mechanic position outlines the requirements, skills and technical knowledge needed to successfully perform the repairs and troubleshooting required for the position. The singular goal of the position is to repair and maintain all production equipment and building systems in our material handling facilities.
q Welding & Fabricating: Must be able to make weld repairs to existing and new equipment and fabricate those parts and components needed to maintain safe and efficient operation. Must be able to Stick weld, Mig weld and use cutting torches and plasma cutters. Must able to use power saws, hand saws, power grinders and cutters. Must able to use pedestal grinders, drill presses, machine presses, power drills and impact tools. Must be able to lift and fit steel and other materials into place for repair and fabrication. Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of the proper use of PPE and safe work practices for the above skill area.
q Mechanical: Must be able to troubleshoot and repair all types of conveyor equipment and their components. Must be able to repair and or replace conveyor motors, gear boxes, chain drives, rollers, belt lacing and belts. Make repairs or replacements to blower systems and counting and scanning. Must be able to repair and troubleshoot hydraulic balers and baling equipment. Such repairs will include but are not limited to hydraulic valve and pump replacements, hydraulic lines and piping, mechanical devices, wire tie systems and inserters. Must able to remove and install gear boxes and chain drives, including all aspects of repairs to these components. Must be able to install and align all types of drives and replace different types of drive belts. Must be able to fabricate, repair and install all types of guarding on material handling equipment at the plant. Must be able to repair high pressure air systems and their components. Must be able to repair building plumbing systems and their components. Must be able to fit, install and repair all type of piping and tubing systems, to include steel, plastic, brass, copper and rubber piping and tubing systems.
q Electrical: Must able to troubleshoot and replace electric circuits and systems to include but not limited to motors, fuses, circuit breakers, contactors, sensing switches and devices, control wiring and transformers. Must be able to restore production machinery from and electrical failure or fault. Must be able to read schematics and drawings. Must be able to repair and replace failed lighting circuits and components.
q Rigging and Lifting: Must be able to use chain falls, coma longs, hoists, lifts and tele-handlers to safely rig and move equipment and parts or components for installation or replacement from repairs. Must know how to safely strap and use chains to secure equipment or material for lifting. Must be able to safely use hydraulic lift and portable power units. Must be able to use clamps and vices for material and equipments being repaired or lifted.
