SHARP Laboratories of America Inc. is seeking a Mobile Systems Researcher.

 

The successful candidate in this position will be a part of the Communication Technologies team, working within the Consumer Systems & Technology department. Sharp is the number one manufacturer of 3rd Generation (3G) advanced cellular phones for the Japanese market. Here at Sharp Labs, we’re developing the technologies that will support the launch of Sharp’s 4th Generation communication products.

 

Members of the Communication Technologies group are active in all phases of research including concept development, simulation, verification and implementation of patentable air interface technologies.  Members develop submissions to international standards organizations and then present and defend their work.

Responsibilities of the position include the following:

·  Function in a leading technical role in contributing to communications research with the emphasis on advancing beyond today’s 3G systems. 

 

·  Possess a strong understanding of the related technologies and be able to perform detailed design supported by analysis and simulation.

 

Requirements of this position include:

·  MSEE (Ph.D preferred) in Electrical Engineering

·  Minimum of 5 years of mobile systems experience

·  Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills

·  Strong understanding of communication theory

·  In-depth knowledge of OSI protocol model, especially MAC, Link Layer and PHY

·  Familiarity with one or more of the following: 3GPP LTE, MIMO, OFDMA, WiMAX, CDMA and/or UMTS

·  Experience developing intellectual property and familiarity with the US patent application process

·  Candidate must be a self-starting team player

 

Preference:

·  Prior experience contributing to a standards body such as IEEE or 3GPP

·  Prior experience developing simulations with MATLAB, NS2, OPNET and/or C/C++

·  Knowledge of communication systems and/or related areas (signal processing, image processing, self-optimizing systems and algorithms, etc.)
