Logistics & Transportation Manager-Des Moines

Manages the Transporation functions for multiple locations' shipments.  This includes developing, implementing and administering systems, procedures and processes which provide effective transportation services meeting customer service levels, revenue objectives and compliance regulations while minimizing risks and overall costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Ensures secure, safe, reliable tranportation of client mail.  Ensures prompt and accurate delivery/pick-up and other transportation activities as required by the needs of the company and customer base.  Analyzes the transportation function in order to achieve maximum efficiency and quality service.

 Manages company equipment fleet for multiple locations including owned and leased vehicles.  Develops forecasting systems to ensure that operating centers have proper number and type of equipment where needed for mail exchange.  Negotiates transportation services agreements and contracts.  Monitors transporation expenses and provides forecasts to management for budgeting.

 Hires/fires, coaches and develops drivers.  Provides training on safety rules and DOT compliance.

 Ensures compiance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and government regulations.  Ensures DOT files are are accurate and complete and ensures safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to effectively utilize, train and develop supervisory staff.Ability to understand and manage DOT requirementsStrong PC skills includling MS Office, Word and ExcelGood communication and organizational skillsStrong analytical skillsBachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience. Bachelor's Degree in Business, Transportation or Logistics is preferred.2 - 5 years of operations/transportation managementTransporation/Fleet service experience which includes route delivery procedures and basic security and operational procedures.

 5 - 7 years of operations/transportation managementCommercial vehicle driving experience is preferred.
