Lead Process Engineer

We are seeking a Lead Process Engineer. A highly motivated, hands-on engineer is sought to join our team of innovators based in North America. The engineer will be a member of the Process Engineering team inside the Product Development Group, leading the process design and test of an advanced fuel processor based, on-site Hydrogen Generator. This is a fantastic opportunity for an energetic individual seeking to join one of the world’s leading hydrogen PEM fuel cell companies.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

· Lead the test and validation efforts of a Natural Gas-SMR based Hydrogen Generator product

· Specify & implement test plans to validate system performance (including integrated catalytic reactor/burner, compression & pressure swing absorption subsystems); coordinate data & reliability analysis and present regularly to development team

· Create & exercise process models to analyze system performance metrics, quantify efficiency/durability/cost tradeoffs, and drive system optimization

· Interface with the mechanical & electrical design teams & product development engineers to produce fully integrated systems, from prototypes to mature products

· Manage performance of product field installations

 

Qualifications:

Educational Background

· Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of industry experience, or Masters ChE/ME with 5+ years of industry experience.

 

Previous Work Experience

· Hands-on experience in H2 pilot plant and/or skidded system development and optimization

· Hands-on experience in new product commercialization

· Demonstrated proficiency in project management, test plan creation and execution

 

Required Skills and Abilities

· Solid grounding in engineering fundamentals: thermodynamics, reaction engineering & kinetics, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.

· Proficiency with test protocols and test plan development, implementation, and reporting

· Strong interest in hands-on process engineering and system realization

· Proficiency with ASPEN process simulation

· Product cost management

· Data handling software packages such as MS Excel

· Demonstrated troubleshooting proficiency on electro-mechanical systems

· Experience with system reliability metrics and analysis

· Familiarity with Labview software/National Instruments control hardware

· Experience with hardware instrumentation (flowmeters, pressure sensors, thermocouples, etc)

· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment

· Enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn, passion to contribute

· Superior communication skills, written and speaking

· Commitment to Safety

 

Desirable Skills and Abilities

· Experience with plant scale-up considerations & trade-offs

· Familiarity with statistical data techniques (e.g. SPC, 6-sigma, etc.)

· Familiarity with industrial equipment and building codes & standards

· Experience in combustion, burner design, fuel handling, and/or emissions control

· Experience with control system development and process automation

· Familiarity in engineering analysis, mathematical modeling, and/or process optimization

· Familiarity with product record creation & management (Agile software)

 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

· Laboratory and office work environments.  Significant time standing in a pilot plant required.

· Ability to lift components weighing up to 35 lbs. is required.

Travel Required

Up to 25% regional travel and occasional 0-5% travel outside the U.S. is required.
