Lead Electrical Engineer, Facilities
Position Description:
Responsibilities will include supervision of the electrical section of the physical plant engineering group. Will provide technical leadership within the electrical discipline to engineers and designers, assist in setting priorities and scheduling design work, and provide input to the chief engineer regarding long term planning of facilities upgrades and maintenance. The lead engineer position is that of a working supervisor, and the successful candidate, along with his staff, will be responsible for engineering analysis and design of facility electrical systems including low and medium voltage power distribution, emergency power, lighting, fire detection and alarms, lightning protection, grounding and security in a R&D environment. Specific responsibilities will include the following:Establish design criteria for electrical portion of projects.Write detailed specificationsProvide technical direction for AutoCAD designers.Generate preliminary & final cost estimates.Make feasibility studies & write reports on technically complex issues.Check & approve shop drawings.Attend job coordination meetings.Assist & advise contractors & Project Managers during construction phase of projects.Select & Specify electrical equipment.Write design criteria & outline specifications for projects that require outside engineering assistance & review drawings & specifications by the consulting engineers during & at completion of engineering & design...Conduct evaluations of finished work.Be prepared to convince other design professionals of the merits of ideas.Assist operations personnel in troubleshooting problems.Qualifications:Education: BS in Electrical Engineering is required; P.E. license or ability to obtain is desired.Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years experience in the design and installation of in-plant power, fire and security systems associated with research laboratories, clean rooms and office buildings.Previous supervisory experience.Thorough knowledge of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, and security systems.Knowledge of and familiarity with U.S. industry and international standards.Familiarity with all applicable building codes design for conformance.Skills: Ability to lead and direct a team of engineering professionals.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.Ability work effectively in a multi-task environment.Strong computer skills - familiar with Word, Excel, and AutoCAD
