Position Description Develop, deploy and manage a quality assurance plan and process for language management for the Global Language and Translation Strategic Business Unit (GLT SBU). Working closely with the internal project teams, external translation providers and other language groups, achieve predictable and consistent linguistic quality, regardless of where the work is executed or of the operational model. Working closely with the WW Director of Language Excellence and with the Quality & Innovation group, develop linguistic standards and associated measurement techniques by which progress can be monitored and improved. Working closely with the localization project teams, make sure that the internal initiatives are in line and meet the client’s expectations in terms of language quality. Working with the Vendor Management group, assist with the development of new resources by improving the qualification processes, develop and implement training programs, and monitor the language quality and general performance of external translation providers. This is an exempt position. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES ASSESS current practices and understand how localization projects are currently carried out throughout all Operations for the GLT Strategic Business Unit. DEVELOP, deploy and fine-tune Language Management standards, policies and procedures in coordination with the Language Management group and all GLT Operations. Define metrics and create a process for data collection and analysis. WORK with internal and local operational units to assure the smooth execution of localization projects, make improvements and provide assistance as needed. ANALYZE the feedback that is regularly reported by Microsoft’s Language Excellence group, disseminate across organization, synthesize the information and develop action plans targeted at correcting those areas where performance has been below standards. Report back to the Microsoft account team regularly. DEVELOP lasting solutions for improvement, by replicating best practices across languages and projects. Report on improvements made. (Timeframe: Report on interim improvements by the end of each month.) STREAMLINE the communication process across all teams working on localization projects, especially those that require cross-site communication and between the internal project teams and the external translation providers. (Timeframe: Report on achieved improvements at the end of each month.) CONTRIBUTE to maintaining and strengthening Lionbridge’s premier vendor status. Contribute to the growth of the account. Work in collaboration with different internal project teams, functional managers and other group representatives; improve the quality of our localization services and overall performance in the field of language management. Help resolve crises with the client contacts, with internal teams, and with external translation providers, when these occur. Assist the Business Unit Managers, Project Managers and Language Leads in advising on the best quality practices and/or processes to implement. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION BA in Translation or other relevant university degree or equivalent (5+ years' experience) and/or prior experience in a Translation/Localization Management position. 5+ years’ management experience, with significant and proven experience in translation or related language activities, or quality management. Excellent leadership skills and ability to coach, motivate, guide, train and model for a group. Ability to work with remote teams effectively. Ability to contribute to the business and strategic objectives of a localization company. Ability to successfully identify potential problems and risk factors and propose innovative solutions. Ability to make independent decisions with effective judgment. Ability to negotiate, to influence, and to make presentations to upper management and to clients. Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multilingual environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Must be computer literate: e-mail, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access. Basic knowledge of VBA for Excel is a plus. Six Sigma or Lean Green Belt certification is preferred.
