Fabrication Estimator

GENERAL

The Fabrication Estimator, as a member of the Technical Group, is the primary focal point for providing cost estimates for all fabrication services project and enquiry activity

 

It is mandatory for the incumbent to be familiar with the requirements of the Quality Management System and to take an active part in the compliance and improvement of the Company’s Quality Programme. The adherence to the Company’s Quality Procedures and allied systems is required to maintain quality standards to API Q1.

 

The incumbent must be fully conversant with the requirements of the Company’s Safety Policy and take an active part in the compliance and improvement of the Safety Management System, ensuring that the health and safety arrangements are being effectively applied by all subordinates.

 

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that subordinates are helped to perform their jobs effectively and have the learning opportunities through which their abilities and potential can be developed.

The incumbent must adopt a cooperative attitude towards being assigned alternative or additional duties to those for which they are primarily employed.

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Administration

 

Accountable for Fabrication Services systems, records and registers, to include:

 

Ensuring Fabrication Services Folder / File Management

  Maintaining Fabrication Services CTR Index

  Maintaining Fabrication Services Production Plan

Monitoring and Reporting of Project Time-Writing

 

Responsible for maintaining suitable records of all activities under direct responsibility

 

Main Processes

 

Responsible for review of Fabrication RFQ’s for completeness and request additional information from Technical Group or external customers as necessary

 

Responsible for Fabrication Estimating process to include

 

Create detailed Material Take-Off (MTO) from fabrication drawings and prepare fabrication cost estimates in accordance with approved process

 

Estimating direct labor and third party service (e.g. NDE, machining, painting) costs for fabrication of structural steel sub-assemblies and miscellaneous components by use of CTR estimating tool

 

Formalize quote and submit approved written quotation to customer

 

Use of available cost data to analyze jobs on an estimate versus actual cost basis

 

Responsible for Fabrication Order process to include

 

  Processing of fabrication job orders in accordance with approved process

 

  Close-out of fabrication job orders in accordance with approved process

 

Responsible for Fabrication Planning process to include

 

Development and maintain project fabrication schedules

 

Develop and maintain Process Control Router (PCR) work instructions for fabrication projects

 

Responsible for progressing Fabrication Services activities to meet project milestones.

 

Responsible for ensuring project elements are checked and reviewed according to QA/QC procedures.

 

Communication

 

In line with Company systems, the position requires the organization of activity reviews based on project plans and subsequent prioritization and the conducting of weekly review meetings.

 

Conduct internal meetings to progress ongoing, urgent or overdue issues.

 

Liaison with VP, Projects & Technology and Team Leaders to ensure projects are progressing satisfactorily and milestones are met.

 

Liaison with clients, sub-contractors, suppliers and company staff to provide fabrication project status reports as required

 

Responsible for the development and delivery of appropriate project reportage to reflect the strategic development of the Fabrication Services team.

 

Contribute to the sales effort through direct client contact and meetings, with focus on target customers as defined within the Technical Group Business Plan.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

1.  Engineering or Business Degree or suitable previous experience

2.  Minimum of five years experience in Fabrication Estimating in manufacturing industry (or similar)

3.  Ability to review and understand fabrication drawings (AutoCad)

4.  Knowledge of relevant engineering standards (API, AISC, ASTM, AWS, SAE)

5.  Strong leadership skills

6.  Excellent communication skills – written and verbal

7.  Good project planning skills

8.  Good computer skills, to include Microsoft Project

9.  Ability to perform tasks independently, with minimum supervision, as well as within a team environment

10.  Ability to multi-task and effectively manage work across multiple projects.
