Engineer (Mechanical Design)
SUMMARY: Develop mechanical designs for High Altitude Airship and Balloon related hardware; plan and supervise environmental testing; supervise fabrication of hardware; design structures, propulsion systems and passive thermal packaging for stratospheric vehicles; perform structural and thermal analyses on flight hardware and produce high-quality reports fully documenting work performed; support various design reviews, subsystem testing, integration and flight testing of high altitude airships and balloons; support promotional and proposal activities as part of a team effort to develop new opportunities for the department.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and the ability to productively interface with clients; working knowledge of mechanical design, structural analysis, thermal analysis and space mission concept design a plus; working knowledge of PRO/Engineer is a plus; computer-aided engineering software required; standard office productivity software required. Some travel will be required to support subsystem and flight testing of the airships at remove test sites or military bases.Must be a US citizen qualified for a DOD security clearance. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
