Position Description:
Scholastic Book Fairs works with schools across the country to host more than 120,000 annual reading events, connecting more than 55 million children with great books each year. Book Fairs foster enthusiasm for reading, while helping to build school and classroom libraries by providing students, teachers and parents access to thousands of books and educational products at affordable prices.We are seeking a Distribution Supervisor for our Westchester (Cincinnati), OH facility. Key responsibilities include:Achieve regional distribution budgeted goals, including metrics, efficiency, and compliance.Manage efficient and constant communication flow between Sales, Customer Care, Operations and outsource providers.Responsible for the recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training, developing, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating employees (drivers) in the Branch, with assistance of the Branch Operations Manager, in a timely and objective manner.Oversee vendor management of outsource providers, including courier services. Plan and maintain lane and truck assignments in conjunction with Production Manager.Assist in production plan development with Production ManagerResponsible for documentation of disciplinary issues as they relate to performance behavior.Assure timely processing and accurate records for employee attendance.Plan and conduct regular driver meetings, with full attendance and appropriate agenda/recordkeeping, to inform, educate, and recognize employees, as well as to provide forum for exchange of ideas.Responsible for directing the work of the transportation staff, including drivers and distribution administrative assistant and outsource services.Oversee fair routing to confirm timely and accurate deliveries of book fairs, additional customer orders and pick-ups while maintaining distribution costs.Oversee truck specifications and preventive care program of all vehicles to assure minimal maintenance costs and safety of the vehicles.Ensure proper record keeping for drivers (DOT, etc.) and report of mileage and fuel for State Fuel and Use Taxes.Ensure that drivers are properly trained in safety and other areas necessary to be effective. Oversee the completion of all required insurance forms in compliance motor vehicle accidents and personal property loss in a timely and efficient manner and distribute to appropriate parties as required.Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and productive work environment while focusing on minimizing work- related injuries and auto losses, complying with all regulatory guidelines, and Company directives. Assure all assets are secured and handled appropriately to minimize product damage and property loss.Implement & execute programs, Company policies, procedures, systems, processes, initiatives, etc., in an efficient and effective manner, in accordance with Branch Operations Manager and General Manager’s directives.Reduce expenses by assuring proper cost controls are in place and functioning properly.Integrate culturally diverse styles to achieve maximum level of productivity individually and as a team.Maintain business confidentiality relative to personnel, pricing, promotion, customer lists, and methods of distribution.May operate forklifts during peak business periods (If certified – must pass drug screening).If applicable, may serve as a back-up CDL Driver (FMCSR regulations would apply, including drug/alcohol testing as well as criminal and motor vehicle record investigation.)
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate required, college degree preferred.Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role.Previous background in fleet dispatching and routing internal fleet desired.Experience/knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations – DOT and OSHA regulations and compliance required.Prior experience with a sales/service distribution organization preferredAbility to analyze, develop, initiate, and implement plans and strategies to achieve goals.Strong computer skills; ability to navigate through the internet, MS Office and email preferred.Good interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and direct associates.Ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines.Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs., push/pull up to 300 lbs., climb ladders without assistance.
