Job SummaryThe Director Clinical Research (CDR) is responsible for the initial planning, implementation and daily operation of a drug development project, or small group of limited projects within a therapeutic area. Reporting a Senior Director or to the Assistant Vice President for the therapeutic area to which the project is assigned, the CDR is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the project. The CDR collaborates with other internally and externally and may serve as the project medical or assistant medical monitor.Job ResponsibilitiesPrepare draft clinical development plans, institutes properly approved clinical protocols, prepares and maintains budgets and expenditure requests, monitors study progress, carefully evaluates all results and prepares indicated and presentations. May act as a medical monitor.Manage the activities of the clinical team assigned to the drug project, or portion of project, for which the CDR is responsible. Serves as a key member and may lead Study Teams and Clinical Project Team under the Global Operating Model. Attends and participates in various in-house meetings including but not limited to Clinical project team meetings, Study Team Meetings, Interdepartmental Project Team Meetings. Defend protocols to CRC, PRC.May act as member of project development team, research strategy sub-team. Functions as medical advisor for projects assigned. May supervise the work of several non-physician clinical scientist and clerical support staff members. Ensures that serious Adverse Events are properly reported to GSSE and Medical Monitors on a Global Basis according to current Standard Operating Procedures.At discretion of supervisor, may be assigned other tasks such as review of potential in-licensing candidates, presentation to Senior Management groups such as DOC and CPDC, presentation to the Therapeutic Area Committe or participation in adhoc committees, etc.Qualifications for ConsiderationMD degree or equivalent. License to practice medicine in at least one state-requiredCompletion of post graduate training in a recognized medical specialty required; certification by a Board of Medical Specialists - desired; sub-specialty training and certification - desired; training in research - useful.No less than two (2) years prior industry experience. Such experience must have been obtained in the pharmaceutical industry, or related academic area, and must be clearly relevant to the type or work anticipated.
