The Director will work with the Head, DTM to form strategies in disease and compound biomarkers in the Oncology area.The incumbent for this position will identify the translational medicine needs of Wyeth programs in the assigned therapeutic area, formulate strategies and plans in support of the needs, and execute research towards identification, validation and application of biomarkers, disease models, and novel technologies. He/She will assess the potential utility of targets and compounds transitioning into Discovery in relation to the proposed disease indications. The incumbent will support TMRC Scotland and other Consortia via joint collaborations to deliver translational research with high impact on Wyeth Oncology programs. He/She will interact with scientists in Discovery, System Biology, Imaging and Biomarker Labs to develop novel biomarker assays and disease models, and participate in Learn Teams to advice on selection of clinical biomarkers and patient groups for early clinical development. The Director will provide resident expert opinion in Oncology and consult and support the Head, DTM in departmental global issues and across departmental engagements. He/She will organize and lead scientific workshops and represent DTM on Wyeth Research Committees. The incumbent will maintain comprehensive and updated knowledge in biomarkers sciences, Translational Medicine, technology, and competitors strategies and positions, as well as solid record of scientific publications and presentations in professional forums. He/She will be responsible for the managing and mentoring of reports and coaching of new employees. Requirements for consideration include: MD or MD/PhD (board certification or eligibility in Oncology highly preferred) At least 10-15 years of research experience obtained in academic or other leading institutions. At least 5+ years of independent research with demonstrated high productivity, as evidenced by leadership in funded grants, first or senior author in peer reviewed publications, training and supervision of staff, and increasing departmental responsibilities. Emerging National/International reputation as leader in specific research area. Translational Research experience and knowledge in advanced technologies (e.g, genomics, proteomics, imaging) highly preferred. Excellent presentation skills are required.
